In 2018, web developer and entrepreneur James Little was approached about building an online ticket sales system for one Branson show. It worked so well that by 2020, nearly 30 live shows were using the online system. During this process, we discovered that many venues and box offices were relying on aging systems and fragile servers to manage their mission-critical workflows. It was then that the need for a modern, integrated box office management tool became apparent.
Development began in 2021, with a first "alpha version" beginning testing later that year. After receiving lots of feedback and suggestions from theatre managers and box office agents, we put more development resources into expanding and refining the system. There were more iterations and more testing, and by 2023, the system was finally ready for use in the real world.
By early 2024, thousands of development hours had been invested, and the system went into production and has since been used for live transactions and reservations for nearly a dozen live shows.
We made the decision to build a point-of-sale and reservation management system from the ground up to meet the unique needs of entertainment venues. Instead of in-house servers or software to install, we created a web-based system that runs in any modern browser and on practically any Internet-connected device.
We started by re-inventing the flow for making reservations. Agents see a schedule with easy-to-find upcoming events. A theatre calendar allows them to jump ahead to all events in future dates. They pick the desired event, identify the reservation as an individual, group or reseller transaction, pick seats from a live inventory, accept digital or in-person payments, and then they can email or print tickets instantly.
Just like shopping on a website, all functions are easy to find and understand, which reduces staff training and the possibility for errors.
